Window Glass Repair
What can be saved, and what genuinely needs replacing
Chips, cracks, fogging and hail damage. Some glass problems are cosmetic and stable, some will spread across the pane within weeks. Knowing which one you are looking at is the whole job.

Not every mark on your glass needs the pane replaced
People tend to arrive at one of two conclusions on their own: either it is just a chip and can be ignored, or the pane is ruined. Both are often wrong.
A small surface chip in the outer lite of a sealed unit, away from the edges, is frequently stable and can be left. A crack that reaches an edge is not, because the edge is where the stress is and where the seal lives. A crack that appeared with no impact at all is usually thermal, and it will keep travelling.
What we do first is tell you which of those you have. If the honest answer is that the glass is fine and you should leave it alone, that is what you will hear.
A chip in the middle of a pane and a crack running to the edge are completely different problems.

Glass problems we deal with
Assessed on site, with a straight answer on whether it needs doing.
Chips and impact marks
Assessed for whether they are stable or likely to spread, particularly near edges where the stress sits.
Cracks and thermal cracks
Cracks that appear with no impact come from uneven heating across the pane. They spread, and the unit needs replacing.
Hail damage
Colorado sees more hail than almost anywhere. Pitting, chips and shattered outer lites all get assessed together.
Failed sealed units
Where a crack has broken the seal, the insulating value is gone even if the pane still looks intact.
Patio and slider panels
Large tempered panels in sliding doors, assessed and reglazed where needed.
Scratches and surface damage
Including damage from cleaning grit and construction debris, and honest advice on when polishing is realistic.
What damages glass in Colorado
Three causes account for most of what we are called out to look at.
Hail, more than anywhere else
Colorado's Front Range sits in the most hail-prone corridor in the United States. A single storm can pit or crack glass across an entire elevation, and damage that looks cosmetic can still have broken the seal.
Thermal stress from daily swings
When one part of a pane is in full sun and another sits in the shade of a frame, the two expand at different rates. With Colorado's forty-degree daily swings that difference is large enough to crack glass with nothing touching it.
UV intensity at elevation
There is measurably more ultraviolet at Colorado's altitudes than at sea level. It is hard on seals, glazing beads and gaskets, and it fades flooring and furniture behind untreated glass far faster than owners expect.
Why get it looked at
The cheap version of this job is the early one.
A straight assessment
Including when the answer is that it is stable and not worth spending money on.
Seal integrity checked
A cracked pane with a broken seal is losing insulation as well as looking bad, which changes the calculation.
Cracks do not stay put
A crack reaching an edge will keep travelling, and once it does the whole unit has to go.
Free estimates
No charge to look, and a firm price if it does need doing.

Glass repair questions
Can a cracked window be repaired rather than replaced?
Rarely, and we would be cautious of anyone promising otherwise for a crack. Small stable chips can sometimes be left or filled; a crack, particularly one reaching an edge, means the pane needs replacing.
My window cracked overnight and nothing hit it.
That is a thermal stress crack. Sun on part of the pane and shade on the rest creates enough differential expansion to split glass on its own, and Colorado's daily temperature swings make it common here.
Hail hit my house. How do I know if the glass is damaged?
Look for pitting, small chips and any crack radiating from an impact point. Also watch for fogging appearing in the weeks afterwards, which suggests the seal took a hit even though the pane held.
Is a small chip worth fixing?
Often not, if it is in the middle of the pane and stable. If it is near an edge it is a different matter, because edges carry the stress and the seal.
Will my insurance cover it?
That is between you and your carrier, but we provide written, itemised quotes and invoices that are straightforward to submit.
