Patio Door Glass Repair
New glass in the panel you already have
A cracked or fogged patio door panel does not mean a new patio door. In almost every case the glass comes out of the existing frame and new glass goes in, at a fraction of the cost and with none of the disruption.

The most expensive pane in the house, and the most replaceable
Patio door glass is large, heavy and always tempered, which makes it the pane people assume cannot be dealt with separately. It can. The panel comes out, the old unit is removed, and a new sealed unit is fitted into the same frame.
There are two distinct problems people call about. One is breakage — an impact, hail, or the sudden and complete shatter that tempered glass does when it fails. The other is fogging, where the sealed unit has lost its seal and moisture is sitting between the panes.
Both are glass problems rather than door problems. If your rollers and rail are also worn, that is worth doing at the same visit, since the panel is already out.
The panel comes out, new glass goes in, and the door you already own carries on.

Patio door glass work
Sliding, stacking and fixed panels, in the correct glass for the opening.
Cracked and shattered panels
Cleared safely and reglazed. Tempered glass fails all at once into small pieces, so this is a clearing job as much as a glazing one.
Fogged sealed units
Failed dual-pane units replaced inside the existing panel frame, restoring both the view and the insulation.
Tempered safety glass
Glass in and beside doors is required to be safety glazing. We supply tempered, not whatever is quickest to source.
Low-E upgrades
If the glass is coming out anyway, this is the moment to improve how much solar heat and UV the door lets through.
Fixed and stacking panels
Not just the moving panel — fixed lites and stacking panels reglazed in the same way.
Rollers done at the same time
The panel is already out, which makes it the cheapest possible moment to replace worn rollers.
Why patio door glass fails in Colorado
Big panels, big temperature swings, and a lot of hail.
Hail lands on patio doors too
Colorado sits in the most hail-prone corridor in the country. Patio doors and their screens take direct hits, and a panel that survives visibly intact can still have a compromised seal.
Altitude works against sealed units
Insulated glass is sealed at the elevation where it was made. Bring it up to Denver or a mountain town and the trapped gas expands, putting constant pressure on the perimeter seal. Units not built for elevation fail years early.
Daily temperature swings
A large pane that bakes in full sun by afternoon and drops below freezing overnight is flexing constantly. That is hard on seals and it is why south and west patio doors fog first.
Why reglaze rather than replace
Same outcome, far less cost and disruption.
A fraction of the price
Reglazing a panel against replacing a patio door is not a close comparison.
No building work
No frame removal, no drywall or stucco disturbance, no repainting.
Correct safety glazing
Tempered glass, properly specified for a door opening.

Patio door glass questions
Can you replace just the glass in my patio door?
Yes, and that is almost always the right approach. The frame, rollers and hardware stay; only the glass unit is renewed.
My patio door shattered into thousands of tiny pieces.
That is tempered glass behaving exactly as designed. It fails all at once into blunt fragments rather than shards, which is why it is required in doors. We clear it safely and reglaze the panel.
The glass is fogged but not broken. Is that worth fixing?
Usually yes. A fogged unit has lost its insulating value as well as its clarity, and on a large patio door that is a meaningful amount of heat going out of the room.
Do I have to use tempered glass?
In a door opening, yes. Safety glazing is required there and we would not fit anything else.
Should I do the rollers at the same time?
If they are worn, yes. The panel has to come out for glass work anyway, so doing both together saves you the labour of a second visit.
Other repairs we handle
Doors and windows are all we do, so whatever has failed, it is probably on this list.
